I applied online. I interviewed at AbaData (Calgary, AB) in May 2025
Interview
Initial Zoom interview followed by an in person interview. One of the better interview processes I've been through and they were immediately transparent about the responsibilities of the role, provided benefits, and productivity expectations.

Question 1
What is the difference between a join and a union.
I was invited for an onsite interview where I was asked about very specific details that an experienced engineer can easily look up online in seconds. It felt like I was expected to know by heart the exact names of certain instructions and commands they’ve been using for the past 20 years. There were only a few questions about really important topics like technologies, pipelines, architecture, code design, and code quality, all of which I answered without any problem. At the end, I was asked to multiply 47 by 32 - a task that felt rather demeaning in the context of a technical interview. And they never communicated the outcome.
