Dear Sender,
Thanks for your honest review! We are sorry to hear that your experience was not ideal and we have discussed this both internally and externally with the respective agency you were in touch with. Let me share the following insights with you:
We are using our tech challenges as one of the means to evaluate technical expertise. Every candidate for that specific role tackles the same challenge, and we most definitely are not looking for “free work” as none of the results are being used in our product. When it comes to requirements, they are left open (or “abstract”) on purpose, as there are many ways to engineer a solution. So there is room for interpretation and creativity. There is also a good amount of discovery and engineering involved in our work, so we like to give a lot of autonomy to our engineers to figure out the best solution. Regarding the time needed to work on our challenges, we always communicate to not over-engineer the response, and to not invest more than a few hours in it - which, according to feedback we collect, is what most Senior candidates are happy with. That being said, we do appreciate every second which you have invested in this challenge and we are sorry it did not work out at this point in time.
Regarding the agency approaching you again after a few months, we have addressed this with them. When it comes to the role still being open, that is owing to our growth ambitions. We continue to invest heavily in development of our product, so most roles we are not just filling once.
Please take our apologies for not having given you the positive candidate experience we are striving for and we wish you all the best for your future career!
