Three interviews for an admin assistant position. Had to prepare a presentation on something I was interested in for the final interview with the CEO. After all that, received a very low offer, and when I tried to negotiate over email had to set up a call with the CEO, where after about 5 minutes the offer was rescinded. Overall, very weird vibes.

Interview
My interviews began in November 2021, the company went through some transitions and I had my final interview in February 2022. I had 2 interviews with the CEO who comes across as arrogant and condescending in all of my interactions with him, except for when his other employees were on the call. I was given an offer after 4 interviews total and I requested to have a phone call asking for a higher base pay (they offered 65k I requested 75k) which is still much lower than most software engineer salaries. I’ve never had such a demoralizing conversation in my life, I pity whoever has to work for this man. After this 15 minute conversation they rescinded my offer. I was going to decline the offer anyway because no amount of money is worth being disrespected, but they beat me to it. I sincerely would recommend working anywhere else if you want to be treated respectfully and paid fairly. I also want to mention it’s a 60 hour work week in the offer.

Interview
I interviewed with the CEO. He called me via Microsoft teams, camera off, while driving. His signal was spotty. Eventually he switched to a laptop. Never turned his camera on.
He stumbled through a few experience questions. Sounded like he wanted to hear a specific framework or model for management. He was condescending and emphasized how difficult it was learn understand all of the technical concepts in place.
I had a lot of time for questions as he only rushed through a couple. I asked about specific projects the company is publicly associated with. He was almost offended? I asked what company culture was like, he told me that they only adopted “Military culture” and emphasized “respect” about 5 times.
It was weird, uncomfortable, unprofessional, rude, and concerning.
