I applied online. I interviewed at Akamai (Denver, CO)
Interview
3 disjointed interactions with three different recruiters who apparently don't talk to each other. Had to reschedule multiple times. Phone interview with hiring manager, he was very personable and seemed impressed by my experience. Did not seem concerned with my not too recent or in-depth experience with network security. Went for the in-person interview. The recruiter failed to tell me that they expected to have me come prepared with a presentation on a provided topic - they never told me this nor provided a topic. I was in a little tiny office with two other people and two others on video. They apologized about the lack of communication but gave me ten minutes to make something up and present to the panel. They grilled me on internet protocols, knowing that was not by background. The folks local in Denver were lovely, the people on the video were cold and honestly, I don't see myself working for them, positively multiple sticks up the butt. So the fact that the presentation did not go well and they never even called me back or emailed to say no thanks is a good thing. I think I would have died a little every day if I had to work for the dude on the video conference from DC I believe.

Question 1
Don't recall details but very very in depth questions on IP protocols
Started with a recruiter call, then the Hiring Manager, a Technical and a Non-technical interview, overall process took more than 2 months and 4 interviews. All the interviews went good, and the technical one is also some kind of straight forward.

Question 1
Why us?
Have you heard of our company before?
Are you willing to learn?
I applied online. I interviewed at Akamai (San Jose, CA) in Aug 2018
Interview
I took the interview in August 2018 at San Jose office. I applied online and I got a call from HR and she quickly moved me to interview with the Hiring manager. The questions were pretty run-of-the-mill questions: why Akamai? why you? why now? why this role?
Next was the technical interview over the phone and the question was as told by others: whats HTTP? can you explain DNS process? etc etc..standard very predictable questions. Next came the onsite interview. This was the horrible part.
its was 4 rounds of 1:1 interaction and then 1 hr of presentation. HR sent me an email saying the topic provided has to be minimum for 45 mins.
In 1:1, 1st round, a TPM asked me a question where do you get your ideas from? When I said I get the idea from the improvisations that we think in our daily activities. He said it's the process of getting an idea, But where do you actually get?. I don't know if he wanted me to explain the human brain's grey matter working.
Next, the hiring manager enters the room while the interview is going on and not even introduce himself. He just walks in and sits and starts typing. That was too creepy. When the interviewer completed, he just walked off the room. I had to ask if I can stay in the room or move to another room. he said the next meeting is already started and the manager is here. The manager just jumped to asking the questions one after another. He didn't give me a chance to ask my questions at all. His last question was when can I join and he needs people ASAP.
Lastly, HR called up after 3 days with an offer and the offer was less than 100K. She had a fixed number and said the hiring manager has given her this number, absurd?!!. I felt there is no pay and have to deal with such a rude manager who doesn't have the basic meeting room manners. Who wants to deal with workplace depression!
In summary, It was looking like a circus with a ringmaster and all others are animals acting according to his whip.
Enjoy the horror show when you get there.
