I had an internal referral to a position I was qualified for IF the recruiter could read between the lines and understand how to apply existing experience to the role.
My phone screening experience was not positive. The contract recruiter seemed to follow a strict script and did not fully consider how my background fits the position. She emphasized specific skills and did not "think outside the box" and understand how my skills fit into the role. She kept asking the same questions and my response, while accurate, did not match her wording and she could not understand what I did.
