Interview
The interview was very conversational, easy, and positive. I think they were just looking to fill the position quickly. At first, we really seemed to click, but after I got hired I realized that the interview went well probably because I could relate more to them, as opposed to them relating to me. Also, they gave the impression during the interview that they couldn't afford to pay me more than the low wage they were offering; although I clearly brought a more valuable skill set that made their offer somewhat of an injustice. After getting hired, I learned that they could actually afford to pay more but they were too shrewd - not just against me, but ALL of their employees, who were clearly struggling financially while leadership clearly was not. Also, during the interview it was indicated that my additional skills could be put to use at a later time, but after getting hired I learned that they would never actually utilize those skills. Niceness and first impressions aside, the reality is that these people are looking for a square peg to fit into a square hole. They want the highest qualified person for the cheapest pay, and if that means them exploiting someone with a smile on their faces - they have no problem doing it.
