      Research Chemist Interview

      Oct 23, 2014
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Berlin
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at BASF (Berlin) in Oct 2014

      Interview

It was my first job interview ever. And also the first telephone interview from BASF, Germany. So it was a general one. It started with, the interviewer told me the procedure, that due to their research my CV was interesting for them and they decided to get to know me more. Started with a question of why I want to work in/for BASF? How I will act as a team leader (because the job was team leadership). Why I like the specific field in chemistry that I was also applying for. Why I did a PhD? Why I came abroad for studies?

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

I had read a lot in glassdoor and other websites what they usually ask. But I forgot the simplest question to think well about, and that was why I like the specific field of chemistry that I have studied and I want to work in that area. It is a simple question, but believe me, if you never thought about it, in some words that will convince public and scientists, it will be challenging to answer. The second thing I did not expect, and also not read in the interview-reports that I studied so far, was the end part of the interview when they asked me I can ask my questions if I have. I could ask a better and more intelligent question if I had thought about it.

      Research Triangle Park, NC
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at BASF (Research Triangle Park, NC)

      Interview

It all happened pretty fast. Applied through campus job fair in October, onsite interview in November, job offer accepted in December. The interview was a day long, and required interviewing with several different people at different levels of the organization. It also included a dinner at the end. And a presentation that was open to all employees to attend.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

They got pretty heavy into the technical questions, which was difficult because while I was familiar with the company, I did not have the kind of knowledge that it seemed the questions seemed designed for.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at BASF (Bengaluru) in Sep 2014

      Interview

Applied online Got a response from HR next day. Had a intro telephonic session with HR within 3 days. First technical telephonic interview with Team Lead after 3 weeks. Feedback about the technical interview within 3 weeks.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Questions were usually on previous experiences. But case based questions were hard ones; interviewer will narrate a scenario and we need to explain how we technical face and solve it.
