      Event Manager Interview

      Mar 16, 2024
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at BitGo (New York, NY) in Mar 2024

      Interview

      1. Recruiter Screening (standard, talking through job history) 2. Hiring Manager (more of a conversational chat - was an extremely positive experience) 3. Another behavioural with a senior level employee (worst interview experience of my life) The last interview was the most unprofessional, demoralizing and dehumanizing interview experience of my life. After rescheduling on me an hour and a half before our interview the previous day (things happen), I was more than happy to reschedule to the next day, same time at 5:30pm EST (a Friday). During our rescheduled time, the interviewer ended up jumping on the call 15 minutes late and exited it soon after saying she needed a break after back to backs. I could only imagine how busy things can be for folks in higher up roles at ~500 person companies so showed her some grace. After returning with 5 minutes left of our allotted time slot, she fumbled to pull my resume up, unsure of who I was and asked if I had any questions while she reviewed it. I had my list of questions ready, as I do before all interviews, but with 4 minutes left at this point I offered to reschedule so we could have a proper conversation, sharing assurance she had surely had a very hectic day! She quickly replied saying how my experience was very impressive but saw I didn’t have any crypto experience on my resume, and while not sure if I was actually interested in crypto or ‘just needed a job’, proceeded to rejected me on the spot before I could answer. I hadn’t been asked a single question. I replied by sharing how dissapointing this was and that perhaps I could have demonstrated to her how fast I’ve been able to pick up other industries in the past and the added value I could have brought to the team that cannot be taught that my competition couldn’t have. I’ve worked in niche tech industries before for recruiting teams in social media and cybersecurity and our recruiting policies emphasised interviewers to trust that you can teach employees about the industry, never bar someone from the process for not having prior (niche!!) industry knowledge and to instead hire for skills that cannot be taught. Didn’t even get the chance to share what those skills may have been.

      Question 1

Didn’t get that chance to hear any! Lol. Ok the lovely hiring manager asked me why I was interested in crypto.

      Interview

Very much like the other person that had left a review about her interview for the Event Manager position, I had an EXTREMELY similar situation. And it's quite a relief that I was not the only person that had a terrible experience. Speaking with the hiring manager was nothing but a positive experience, however that was not the case during the second round. At the start of our interview, she had mentioned she would need to hop off to join another call but she asked that I text her so she can call me afterwards. During the first 15 minutes of the interview, I felt as if she was unable to give me her full attention and was working, which is fine, I understand but it made it really difficult to engage. She then hopped off to just another call and after her meeting, she called me back and even on the phone call, I can tell she was busy doing other stuff and it made me incredibly uncomfortable, especially when she gave me some unsolicited career advice that was quite direct. I appreciate the feedback from her, but I felt that as a stranger trying to interview for a role at the company, it was kind of harsh and really dampened the overall experience. Much like the other candidate's experience, she saw that I didn't have any crypto experience and mentioned that she didn't at the time as well but she definitely made it sound like I was applying just to apply. She essentially rejected me on the spot. I even followed up with the recruiter because I wanted to provide feedback, however the recruiter said that our interview was cut short and wanted to give me another opportunity. So giving it a shot, I had provided some availabilities and it's been a week since I have heard anything.
