I'll preface this by saying upfront that I was not offered the position. That being said, throughout the interview process, I was wary about accepting the position in the hypothetical situation that I was given the offer. Every step of the way, the interviewers threw out major red flags that either a) they didn't exactly know what they wanted from the position or b) this was some weird scam. First red flag was the title of the position. This might just be nitpicky but having worked in the data science field for some time, the title "Statistical Analyst" is something I have never seen before, suggesting that they have never hired for this type of position. Likewise, I hold a BS in Economics, so if they were looking for a statistician, then the entry point is normally a Masters in a quant field, not a Bachelor's degree. Nevertheless, they asked me to interview within two hours of submitting my application. I thought it was quicker than normal but I didn't think too much of it. The first round was a quick screening and then I went onto a panel of four people. This is when the next red flag came up. Obviously, it is a technical position and having interviewed for similar positions in the past, I know more or less what should be asked in this sort of interview. I think the most technical question I was asked was "What is your experience with xyz language?", followed by questions about why I wanted to work with them. I'm not saying that this is a serious red flag but I've been around the block long enough to know that a quick google search is enough to fake one's way through this sort of questioning. My next interview was with the CEO of the group. It was more of a get to know you type of interview and at the end, he said he would be forwarding on my resume to the next step. Needless to say, I never heard back. After realizing that they weren't going to call me back, I did a bit more research about the executive board and could not seem to find much information on any of them outside of articles posted on their website. Make of this what you want. I would just be wary if they call you in for an interview.
