Interviews for Top Jobs at Compass High School

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Compass High School (Tucson, AZ) in Jun 2019
3-4 hour interview 3x. That should of been a good indication they had no idea what they were doing. The man-child who received the school from his parents talks non-stop about himself. Then his brother, another man-child, pretends he's interested but can't find one question to ask. Instead, he looks around the room and talks about his learning disabilities. Absolutely ridiculous!
- The first thing they want to know from anyone is if you know what their school is all about. They do this in hopes that you have no idea what they do as to avoid cross-referencing other schools against theirs. The more ignorant you are...the better your chances are in getting hired. I was super naive and a prime candidate.

I had three separate interviews with admin. On three different days instead of all at once. This was an inconvenience since I was living out of town at the time. They will have you wait anywhere from 30 plus minutes before you interview with admin. (I had to wait for one guy to finish his lunch before the interview despite me arriving at the agreed upon interview time. Before that , an office lady takes you on tour of the school and that is also a part of the interview.
- What made you decide to become a teacher?

Traditional multi-step interview. Emphasis on participatory education versus lecture. Subject matter expertise was emphasized, but focused also on intrinsic motivation to guage a goid hire. Be prepared bu understanding learning styles, and individual emphasis on students
- I did most of the talking, however they were fushing for information leading to no student should he left behind.

They offered to let me come in on a Saturday, which was appreciated, since I had a job at the time. However, the person I made the interview with (Kerk) did not show up. Instead, the head of the school did, albeit late. After that she gave me a tour and then we interviewed in her office.
- Do you have thick skin? (The student demographic is a rough one)

Applied with my cover letter and resume online, received a phone call. Went into the school a little awkward as I had not asked where to go, but found the front office and the front desk clerks alerted one of the owners/admin to begin my interview. I met with two of the owners/admin and one of the teachers, then was offered the job on the spot.
- Are you nervous about this position?

I arrived on time and was asked to wait in the reception area as the President was running behind. I could hear him screaming at someone in his office. This went on for 15 uncomfortable minutes before my interview began. Before the interview was over, I was given a to-do list un related to the position I was applying for.
- I was asked if I mind a hot tempered boss.
