      R&D Trainee Interview

      Jul 5, 2015
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at Continental in Jun 2015

      Interview

Contacted by a staffing agent for availability of position, conduct an interview with agent on general and behavior questions like strength and weakness, most accomplished things etc,. Did an online test of two sections, verbal and numerical, each one was 6 mins and 13 questions, easy and nothing technical. The agent then scheduled an interview with an HR in Continental. It was said to be a video interview but turned out to be a phone one. Asked for general and some behavior questions again: most innovative things etc,. The job requires Master (or Higher) in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering and was and R&D role, they do not gave any specific technical requirements in job description. Asked them for it, no good answer was given. The details of the job was explained badly as well, the title of the job was R&D, but the whole department more play around marketing, more likely most of the job will be interfacing with OEs. The HR said the career track could be on either marketing or R&D, but even on R&D track, they do not require (or more likely never heard of) typical tire development engineer's technical credentials like FEA/CAE, numerical methods, Materials, process development, or even basics like CAD. I doubt the hiring managers do not have any background in engineering, for they show no understanding in fundamentals of engineering or engineering management. The interview was meant to be in English, but the HR of Continental can not do effective communications in English, I need to repeat answers in mandarin during the interview. But I was still not sure they were with me on the engineering terminologies. I contacted the Staffing agent minutes after the interview to stop the hiring process, for the Continental had no idea what they were doing.
