I received an email from their People & Culture Partner about my application and we scheduled a screening call for 2 days later. After chatting about my work history and such, I was told that I would likely hear back within a week about a potential interview. Surprisingly, I got an email later than day about scheduling the interview for the following day. I was super excited at that point.
I spoke online with the hiring manager about the company and the position (which they called "Product Manager" but wasn't like any other role I have seen with that title) for longer than our scheduled time. He asked me if I leaned more towards the technical side of things or if I was more of a business guy. I answered honestly that I would be technical if it was up to me.
The hiring manager, who is also the co-owner of the company, sounded very intrigued and I could tell he was mulling things over. He said that it's always nice to have smart people in the company and he would get back to me if he could put something together. I interpreted that to mean that he was looking for more of a business guy but it might be possible to make things work, just not how he had originally envisioned.
I never heard back after that point, even though I had high hopes. I also waited too long to reach out and follow up, but sometimes you can tell that it's not going to happen. I did eventually send an email saying that I would have loved to work there and I considered it "the one that got away".
Now it's been 4 months and that job is still posted, so who knows.
