      Average interview

      Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at DFS Group (Singapore) in Nov 2015

      Interview

6 stages : phone interview , assessment centre , HR interview , phone profiling , panel interview , interview with the MD Interviewers were nice and friendly , but interview process is tiring lengthy and competitive . Would have appreciated clearer instructions on exactly when I will receive results on whether I was successful in each round , or simply one full day of interviews and assessment centre instead of having them on 6 different days . Because of this , I was waiting indefinitely for the results of each round and could not make other plans to leave the country until I heard from the company . By the time I got to the final stages I felt jaded already .

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at DFS Group (Singapore) in Mar 2016

      Interview

The panelists were very friendly. The assessment center was divided into a few parts. First was a talk about the program given by the HR Manager. Then, we went into the first group case study. The first case study was about real problems that happened at DFS stores. We were given 10 minutes to discuss, 5 minutes to present. After listening to every group's presentation (total of 3 groups of 5), we were given 5 minutes to discuss on feedback for the other 2 groups and 5 minutes to deliver the feedback. There was a break after the feedback session and after the break, we went on to the second case study, which focused on management skills. The case study was followed by another feedback session with the same format.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

You gave appraisal for a particular employee who has been around in the company for quite some time and was not performing so well at that period. You thought that he accepted it quite well. However, he told his colleagues that he was upset because he was not evaluated fairly. What would you do when you found out about this?

      Positive experience

      Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at DFS Group (Bedok New Town, ) in Oct 2015

      Interview

Hiring staff are quite friendly. Started off with an easy phone interview (asking why do you want to work here, how are your skills relevant, are you able to work on weekends, etc). About 3 weeks before the actual assessment centre, you will be given a case/task to do. Be sure to do it because it seemed like everyone went prepared and ready to fire all their points away. The assessment centre was easy overall, but rather comparative in nature. You have to stand out compared to the other candidates in order to get the job. Being the same as everyone else just doesn't cut it. It was a half-day assessment. Tasks include group discussions and presentations, critiquing the best/worst candidate from other groups, exposing you to scenarios where you might face on the job (e.g. motivating an employee, taking on a leadership role but having your staff unconvinced by your skills in a project, etc). It is an interview that really shows your character during the process so it's important to be yourself and it will be fine. Did not get to the last stage.
