Many rounds of interviews, but none too difficult. Everyone was very nice! There was also a hiring task to complete after the first round that was a sample task to complete.
- Are you comfortable working remotely?

They had multiple stages, each stage had a simple code/alogorithmic test. I believe there are 3 rounds in total. The first one was very easy, a technical screening interview. The second one is a little more involved- super basic algo/ds and unit test, easy for most developers. Despite solving the problem(s) correctly in the allotted time, unfortunately I did not make it to round 3.

Very communicative and professional. The process of application to first interview was less than a month. Even though I didn’t get the position they were kind and gave feedback. Would love the opportunity to work with them in the future.

First round was a phone screen with head designer The second round was a 2 hour design challenge interview where I had some time to work on a design prompt and then present my work to the team.

I heard back from the company within a week of submitting my application giving me a timeline of the process. By the determined date they told me I would not be moving on to the next process.
- What is your experience in technology?

HR screen, homework assignment, hiring manager phone call. Everyone was friendly and easy going. The homework was just the right level of difficulty. Employees seem a little too easy-going. They took their sweet time to review my homework and schedule calls. 3 weeks Christmas vacation seemed a little excessive. Working for the CTO means a very high technical bar — even if the recruiter or the CTO never explicitly tells you. If they have such a high bar, then make it explicit. You know, technical savvy is not the only chops. High quality reports and good communication are just as important. If a business person had reviewed my homework/report, they would probably have chosen me over some PhD that they have a hard time understanding. Recruiter was contract (and remote) so offered little substantial insights into how the company really worked. Office looks far from BART and Caltrain.

I was actually at the end of a very long interviewing week of 20 companies, and had on a whim accepted a first interview with Desmos off AngelList. I had a quick phone screen, then a video call for the "Slack case" sales call simulation. Although usually when you hear fake sales call, it's usually a terrible excuse for you to regurgitate facts about the company, this one was super organic and gave good insight for the sales process. I was then flown into the office for an on-site interview where the usual interviewing process was condensed into one day of meeting multiple relevant members of the team. Then I gave a bunch of references (7?), which they checked extensively. Fun fact: none of my references have ever gotten a call before, so this was very much a huge departure from start ups that hire for bodies/necessity rather than fit.
- The classic "teach me something" question - the one step further was why I chose to teach the way that I did

I really enjoyed the interview process with Desmos. The hiring lead for sales was very friendly and helpful. I didn't speak with any recruiters or non-functional HR people, so it was nice to speak directly with the sales or product teams through the whole process. Everyone was very welcoming, friendly and curious. They have a very nice office space and catered lunch on Thursday when I happened to have my in-person interview I applied online and received a prompt email to schedule a phone interview/screening with the sales lead. After it seemed to be a good fit in interest/skills, I was offered a Skype interview to display my sales skills via a role-play exercise where I was tasked with selling a team communications software the sales lead chose. After that, they invited me into their office in San Francisco for ~2.5 hours of meetings. I sat in on a product brainstorming meeting which was very interesting and interactive. I then had 2 one-on-one interviews with people across sales and product, all mostly behavioral/cultural-fit based. I then had one more sales meeting role-play with 2 people playing customers.

- You are selling <name of team communications software> and you've scored a meeting with me as a potential customer after cold-emailing me via LinkedIn. Prepare for a 20 minute meeting with me to sell your software using the consultative sales approach.

I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Desmos (San Francisco, CA) in Oct 2016
This was an in-person interview at Desmos offices in San Francisco, CA. The first hour was spent in a one-on-one behavioral interview, with time for questions at the end. This was followed by a 30-minute "case interview" with two members of the Desmos staff where I was asked to sell a specific product or service. The final 30 minutes was another one-on-one interview with a member of the team where I was asked behavioral questions and completed another teaching/training demo.
- Tell me about a complex sales experience

One main interview. About an hour long. Asked all of the standard questions, making sure I was qualified for the role. Follow up interview asked additional questions about my experience with social media, professional learning goals and strategies, other ways that I seek out to continue to grow as an educator.
