Interview
Very odd, nobody knew where the GM was so they just pulled in some random higher up. This would mean having to come back a second time for the actual interview. I was immediately asked if I would shave my facial hair, not buzz but a clean razor shave. This is mandatory for all Duke employees apparently, something they should mention in their applications. For less than minimum wage, a company shouldn't dictate if you can have facial hair or not. It's also a weird thing to take issue with, and honestly made me very uncomfortable. It speaks to a possible abuse tactic, as they attempt to control your life outside of work in this way but don't compensate you for you life outside of work. My advice to people applying here is be aware that it isn't a "pub" in the traditional sense and it is a corporation with outdated business practices. If you want to bar tend or serve, perhaps try a more modern establishment.
I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Duke Pubs (Toronto, ON) in Aug 2017
Interview
I took a personality test on-line, then I was called into corporate headquarters to interview with an executive from the corporate office. A few days later, I came in and spoke with a senior executive. I thought that both of these interviews went exceptionally well. The next day, I was sent to one of the restaurants to interview with a general manager. I was not as well-received as I was with the execs; I could tell that she did not want to hire me. I never heard back after that third interview. It stung a little at first as I really wanted to work for this company, and I felt the first two interviews went so well, but this is a part of the interview process, and others have dealt with worse. No hard feelings; I wish them all well.
