Interview
Met with the CTO and had an interesting chat about the work and team for half an hour. Next was a take home Hackerrank challenge. I honestly thought it wasn’t that bad and finished with plenty of time to spare, but I must have misread the problem because it was worded a bit poorly and was timed so I couldn’t really ask for clarification like I normally do in whiteboard interviews. I don’t think my shorter time to complete it was taken well, but I wasn’t going to sit for 3 hours when I had time to double check it in 1.5 hrs. Too bad though, they missed an excellent candidate. Wish the interview was more personal so I could have gotten to know the engineering team better. What would have been better would have been a take home exercise where I could have met with someone after to go over my solution so I could have interviewed them as well and gain a better understanding of the team culture. I don’t think a hackerrank question provided the interviewer with any insight into my problem solving ability or skill as an engineer and didn’t leave me with wanting more to apply or refer my friends there at a future date. They never reached out after with any feedback or response of how I did so I assume poorly given that it was an automated system reviewing the code. Unfortunate really.

Question 1
Won’t say since it’s confidential but the gist of it was that it was a single hackerrank problem, 180 minutes, multi paragraph question poorly worded and a bit confusing to understand, several edge cases, and dealt with an array.
