I got a call from a recruiter for software development manager position. Being a senior back-end developer I confirmed if it is fine for me to go ahead with interview. Recruitedconfirmed the same with company's higher up and it was briefed that company is looking for a strong hands on back-end person even if person doesn't have management experience. So we moved ahead with interview.
Round#1: Telephonic interview - Telephonic interview was scheduled with HR. But the person who was suppose to call was busy, so someone else from HR team called me and asked me 3-4 technical questions and I can clearly make out he wasn't able to understand much of my response. During discussion I got to know HR is considering me for senior developer position and I clarified that I am being interviewed for Software Dev Manager so HR rectified it and mentioned it will be taken care.
Round#2: I went for face to face interview and 2 members(manager and developer) came to interview me. We had discussion for little over an hour where in they mostly focused on my technical skills. Everything looked good during discussion and they called their higher up for further discussion and he knew I am there for manager interview so he started sharing JD with me. But manager from interview panel interrupted and told I am considered for senior developer position upon which I clarified that I am there for manager position. After this embarrassing situation for all of them, they moved ahead and had a brief discussion.
Round#3: They said everything is positive and shared an online test with me which was simple and I completed next day.
Feedback: My online test went well but they have couple of more candidates who have front end knowledge as well so they want to drop my candidature at the moment.
Overall Interview Experience: MESS! HR who is the face of the company wasn't able to distinguish for which position I am being interviewed. This reflects the culture of company and poor process followed within. Even when I visited the company HR didn't had courtesy to meet me. Won't recommend anyone to consider such company!
