I interviewed at European Central Bank (Frankfurt am Main)
Interview
Very smooth, three interviewers in total, with one taking the lead and the others taking notes and asking questions occasionally. The interview was structured as follows: introductory and motivation questions, past modeling and coding projects questions and some behavioral questions.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The most challenging coding project I had ever completed.
My interview was conducted by two staff members, one from the Management Division and the other from the Development Division. They first introduced the activities of their respective divisions and the tasks I would be expected to perform for a traineeship in that specific area.
I was then asked a series of questions aimed at assessing my suitability for the role, which included describing my strengths and relevant experiences, particularly situations in which I had managed tasks or challenges similar to those I might encounter during the traineeship. The staff members also tested my knowledge of the Directorate General Market Infrastructure and Payments, in order to evaluate my understanding of its role and responsibilities within the ECB.
The interview also explored how I would behave in specific work-related scenarios: each question was detailed and, when necessary, was accompanied by a brief explanation or background information to ensure I could respond as fully and accurately as possible. For example, I discussed a university project in which I acted as a team leader and explained the reasons why I believe the project was successful, as well as situations in which I had to interact with and resolve issues involving difficult stakeholders.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at European Central Bank (Frankfurt am Main) in Mar 2026
