Difficult interview
Application
I applied online. I interviewed at Fastly
Interview
Long. 6 rounds total for me from initial phone screen to last round. Hiring manager, director, panel, presentation, follow up call with hiring manager. Long process but worth in the end.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Personality as well as situational (tell me about a time when). Presentation was a mock business review.
I applied on LinkedIn and interviewed with Fastly a few months ago. The process was initially pleasant but ended up being very long and draining. Overall, it feels like Fastly demands a lot from candidates before they even work for Fastly. They make you work so hard to prove that "you are worth it" yet they don't put in nearly as much effort to show you why Fastly deserves your talent and hard work.
Pros:
-Interviews are well organized and meeting instructions are clear in emails/calendar
-Recruiters responded quickly to your questions
-Opportunities to meet many people in the company
Cons:
-Recruiter didn't show up in the interview and I waited 30 minutes not knowing what's happening.
-I was told there were be 5 interviews in total but they ended up scheduling 10. I felt trapped and deceived in the middle of it and it was too late to back out given the amount of time and energy I had already spent. Please be upfront in the beginning so candidates can decide early on if they want to continue with the process.
-Questions asked in the 10 interviews were pretty much the same. What's the point of this? Not a good use of time and it takes so much out of a candidate just to interview for one company. If you a company can't tell if a candidate is worth the hire after the 3rd interview, who is the problem here?
-When I had questions, I didn't get the help I needed and had to figure things out on my own.
-I was exhausted and relieved when the interviews were over. After I finished all the interviews, they requested more interviews because some interviewers didn't show up during their scheduled interviewed time. How unprofessional and inconsiderate!
-Several individuals sent out multiple messages in a few hours to schedule the interviews. How about having one designated person handles all communication and give candidates time to respond before sending out more communication? People are busy and demonstrate some respect. There is a difference between being efficient and being demanding.
-Lack of diversity.
I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Fastly in Sep 2020
Interview
I applied through their web page, the following day a recruiter sent me an e-mail confirming my profile fit for the position and asking me to suggest some times for an interview. I answered the same day and suggested 3 different times for the same week. Never heard back from them. After a week, I sent a second e-mail to find out what the situation was, and they never replied. Strange.
