Hello all,
I wanted to share my experience regarding the interview I attended today at Friendly Franchisees Corporation. The role was posted as a Data Analyst / Property Management Analyst, but the actual position presented during the interview was entirely different. Instead of a technical or analytical role, it turned out to be a Leasing Sales Manager position for their properties — a job that does not align with the description, responsibilities, or expectations set in the job posting.
What makes this experience even more disappointing is that many of us traveled from different states — in my case, I came from another state specifically for this interview — believing we were going in for a legitimate opportunity in data analytics. As international students pursuing a master’s degree in computer science, we invest significant time, money, and effort into building careers in our field. Not everyone is ready or willing to take a non-technical, commission-based sales role, especially when that is not what was advertised.
Additionally, the interview process itself lacked clarity and structure. The location was changed without proper communication, which caused confusion for several candidates. The overall process felt disorganized and misaligned with basic professional standards.
My intention in sharing this is not to demean anyone, but to call attention to the importance of transparency and integrity in the hiring process. Companies should not exploit the expectations or desperation of job seekers — especially students who are working hard to secure roles that genuinely match their skills, education, and career goals. Clear job descriptions, honest communication, and respect for candidates’ time and commitments are the bare minimum that any organization should uphold.
I hope this message encourages others to be cautious and also reminds organizations of the responsibility they hold when engaging with candidates who trust them with their career opportunities.
