Two members of the photography team came to my college in Santa Barbara to interview prospective applicants for the staff photographer position. They were both alumni members who had graduated from my college (Brooks Institute) and had been at General Dynamics as photographers for years. They looked over and loved my portfolio of photographs, asking me for details on I composed, lit, and printed the photographs. I explained the details and as the interview concluded they asked if I had any questions for them. This was my very first big-time interview and it was a subject we did not cover in our classes. I responded, "Well, what does General Dynamics do? Oh my god, how far off base did I look at these two??? They looked at each other wondering what rock I must have climbed out from under. Then explained that GD was one of, if not the largest government defense contractors in the country, and on and on! I had two more interviews at the plant in Pomona and got the dream job that I wish no I had never left. They moved the plant to Tucson, AZ, and I chose to stay in my beach community in southern California.
