      Validation Engineer Interview

      May 30, 2014
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at General Motors (GM) in Oct 2012

      Interview

I attend my schools career fair in the fall of 2012. I went to the GM booth and talked to several recruiters, at which point I was offered an interview. At the time I was only looking for an internship, since I still had an additional year of school left. During my interview I was asked a series of situational questions. Such as given this situation how would you react. I was also asked questions where I needed to provide examples from my past jobs or class work, so that I could show my experience with different situations. I was also asked about what types of work I was interested in, such as hands on, design, testing, etc. After my interview I was told I would hear back in about 3 weeks. Exactly three weeks later I received a call from HR telling me I had been extended an offer. Once I accepted the offer I began to receive information from Red Carpet, which is GM's on boarding program. This included information about drug testing, background screening, as well as, documents to be filled out for employment. GM uses their internships to find future employees. Think of it as an extended interview. Once I began work as an intern I was given real engineering work, and was expected to get it done. I did have plenty of help from my mentor, but I was still expected to do quality work. You get reviewed near the end of your internship and if things go well you are usually given an offer for full time employment. If you still have more than a year left of schooling you could also be given another internship. For me I was given a full time offer as a validation engineer, that was contingent on my graduation the following spring.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at General Motors (GM) (Milford, MI) in Dec 2025

      Interview

Single round interview with two senior engineers in the same role that as a lot about the experiences on your resume. For myself, they asked a lot about by experiences in test engineering through my internship as well as my involvement within Formula Student over my 4 years of university. Both about the technical aspect and the leadership aspect as my role within the team evolved. The technical aspect of the interview was very lax.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

They ask the standard, "get to know you" question like, "what are your hobbies, what got you into engineering, what excites you about this role, etc.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at General Motors (GM) (Warren, MI) in Oct 2020

      Interview

Overall the interview was a great experience. I was first reached out by my engineering recruiter who does a brief background screening (simple tell me about your self and company based questions). Next was the Hire-Vue interview consist of 3 questions. For me these where technical specific job questions. About a week after, I received the next step to a digital video interview with 2 hiring managers. Who were totally amazing and made me feel very comfortable. The interview starts of with them explaining the available positions and then they ask to briefly get into your background and previous work experience. Then they will ask 3-4 STARL based questions. Make sure you prepare for situation based, conflict and relationship building questions. I really enjoyed the process at GM. The process took about 4+ weeks from start to finish receiving the offer letter. I accepted with no doubt because of a great team and opportunity.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      1) Explain something you would like to improve about yourself and what did you do about it? 2) Tell me about a time where it was hard to build a relationship with someone and how did you get around it? 3) Tell me about a time you made a mistake or would do something differently? 4) A company for years have been working and doing something as a routine. But recently you found out there is a huge fault in this method, how did you go about exposing the issue and fixing it? ( This one threw me off wasn’t expecting this)
