I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at General Motors (GM) (Warren, MI) in Feb 2021
Interview
When I interviewed, I was interviewing for an IT-related role. What happened is, I did interview for that role, and when I was hired, I was assigned to someone I never met and I had no idea what the group did within the IT community. This is less than funny when you consider I worked in IT for more than 20 years and I ended up in a group I had little interest in.
The mistake I made was staying in that group beyond the time I was obligated. At GM, you are often "expected" to stay in a role for about 1 year, unless specific, documented discussions occurred. If You accept employment and end up in a role you feel is dead end or you have no interest in, start building relationships with people in other groups and actively seek out roles supporting other groups or projects, that you can pivot to when the time is right for you.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
"Give me an example of a time when you had to work with a difficult co-worker and how did you overcome those difficulties?"
Just know that GM uses Lominger Competencies when evaluating candidates, so look that up on the interwebs ; )
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at General Motors (GM) (Warren, MI) in Sep 2025
Interview
Started with an initial phone screening that was very standard and typical. Next was a one sided interview where you record yourself answering questions to be reviewed later. Then the final interview. The final interview was very unpleasant. There was no introductions or anything. We jumped right into the first question. Very unwelcoming and turned me off immediately.
