      Sales Operations Data Analyst Interview

      Jun 28, 2016
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      San Diego, CA
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at GitHub (San Diego, CA) in Jun 2016

      Interview

I submitted my resume on their web site and received an email a couple days later from the recruiter. She asked to setup a brief call of half an hour. Keep in mind I was applying for a remote position. A couple days later I had the thirty minute phone call... With the hiring manager. He was someone who I felt confident knew his stuff and who I'd be happy reporting to. We had an excellent conversation which lasted nearly 1.25 hours. At the end of our call he informed me about the rest of the process: the technical exercise, and interviews with a peer of his, his boss, and all other stakeholders. So I did the technical exercise then had a good call with the hiring manager's colleague. Then the recruiter said they'd like to move to the next step. She asked for my availability, but when the email containing the schedule of interviews arrived, they were scheduled for a three hour block of time, back to back. I took the day off for the interviews which were held via a video conference application (Zoom). It was intense! It was one interview after the other, half hour a piece. Everyone was clearly quite competent, and most were nice people too. They all asked really good questions which i really had to work to answer. For example they'd ask about scenarios and how I'd handle different things, and then they'd drill into my answers with good follow-up questions. By then end I felt pretty worn out. Then a couple days later I had a chat with their HR person about salary and benefits expectations. She said she'd get back to me in a couple of days, and indeed she did. Unfortunately it was to tell me they were moving forward with other candidates who had experience with sales-side (and SaaS) analytics. I appreciated her candor even though I was bummed to be passed over. So overall I was quite impressed by how organized they were and the caliber of the people in their employ. The only thing other applicants should know is that you may invest a lot of time and receive no offer.
