I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Hanover Research in Dec 2010
Interview
Applied online. Received an email immediately and a phone interview was set up. It lasted about 30 minutes. The human resources manager asked me very detailed questions about my research experience, important papers I had written, my last job, why I picked my major, if I knew anything about Hanover. She was a very experienced interviewer.
Asked to continue to the second round which involved a research paper, Chicago style. I was given 7 days to complete it. The topic was an overview of international branching of US campuses. It wasn't made clear what kind of information they really wanted. The word overview means different things to different people. In the end, I wasn't asked to do the third round. A little disheartening but fair I suppose.
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Hanover Research
Interview
Fairly straightforward if you have a friend who refers you. It depends on the hiring manager how hard they're going to be on you. Then you do a project which takes more time than it should.

Interview
First, there was a brief call with the recruiter. Then, the recruiter sent me an assessment task and asked me to complete it within 4 days. Then, I was interviewed with the hiring team (3 persons).
very straight to the point with questions on research experience and familiarity with software. they do ask you to run a bit through your cv, and it takes about 15' only.
