Had two interviews with the line management after a screening - overall the conversation was great and they seem keen on ensuring team members are a good fit + are eager to learn. The org seems like a training first place.
- How do you stay motivated

Initial call with recruiter. Very odd, as they were trying to ask technical questions but did not seem to have any technical knowledge. Had a technical with two developers, which was by far the strangest and worst interview I've ever had. They asked me to write a React component to display a list of users. The position was NOT for frontend developer, nor did the job posting even mention React. I said that I didn’t have much experience with React, and the interviewer said “That’s ok, you can use any language you want”. Ok but React is a framework, not a language? I still tried my best though honestly I wish I’d just ended the call. They presented me with a hypothetical use case and asked to optimize it. I would start talking about realistic constraints, like memory, failing API calls, etc. and they told me to ignore those and tried to get me to arrive at extremely simplistic answers, by changing the constraints in a convoluted and unrealistic way. For example, they said "pretend we have infinite memory" or "pretend this API call fails 1 time at most". It was absolutely bizarre and too easy at the same time.

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Hootsuite in Aug 2023
It was quite a journey and took 3- 4 weeks to finish all four rounds of interviews. Although I didn't get the offer, I had a good experience with them and probably come back in the future. 1) Phone interview: A 30-minute normal phone interview. The lady asked me about what I know about the company and asked me about my past experiences (based on my resume) 2) Technical interview (Round 1): Took an hour. I talked to two developers. There wasn't a question they didn't ask! about Activities, Fragments, Lifecycles, Code Architecture (MVP/MVVM/MVI), Declarative Vs. Imperative Programming, Types of testing (Unit testing, Instrumental testing, etc.). They also asked a coding question. The question was, We have an array of integers with some random numbers in it. Put all Odd numbers on the left side and all Even numbers on the right side of the array. You should be able to write the code and then say how to improve it. 3) Technical interview (Round 2): Took an hour. It was about System Design. I didn't expect what they asked me about. The question was: We have an "Add Post" mechanism that is implemented for Hootsuite web, users are able to put text and add images/videos and see the preview functionality on the web (per social platform). How do you design/architect such a system for mobile? 4) Values interview: It was tough. You should be well prepared for it. I read their website, LinkedIn, Medium, etc. to gain an understanding of what they do and what are their values. They asked a lot of questions during an hour. These are the questions I remember: Tell me about yourself and why we should hire you. What are your strengths/weaknesses (They didn't directly ask this but I remember I talked about them). Tell me about a mistake you made in dealing with team members. Give me an example of a time you faced a conflict while working on a team. How did you handle it? What do you do when you join a new company (I don't remember well but they were interested in hierarchy). Tell me about a time that you had to sacrifice a good thing to meet the deadline. How do you define success? Describe your idol team.

Everything started really well with quick responses. I had an initial conversation with the recruiter, then hiring manager and lastly a role play panel where I had to pitch the product to a company of my choice. After the final round I was told that I will have feedback by the end of the week. 2 weeks and 2 follow up emails later - absolutely nothing. I fully accept that perhaps they feel I many not have been the right person for the role, however, to be completely ghosted and ignored doesn't bode well for any company. In my opinion, it's really disrespectful to those who show a genuine interest in the company and those who take the time to apply and take part int the interview process. I hope you guys can use this criticism constructively going forward and understand the importance of providing feedback (no matter the outcome) to candidates who are looking for new opportunities.

Smooth and fast process. Responsive HR team. Everyone was kind and motivated. I ended not getting the position for something that was always clear on my resume so I felt like maybe the team needed to align better on their priorities for the position. Other than that, all interviews were interesting and you can feel that there is a great company culture there.
