I applied through college or university. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Illumina (San Diego, CA) in Mar 2017
Interview
For the first round, I recorded my answer on HireVue. I had 6 behavioral questions. Then I got a call from their IT manager. Asked some questions about network concepts and my experience. Didn't make it to the final round.
I applied in-person. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Illumina (Great Chesterford, England) in Feb 2015
Interview
My interview process was a phone screen with an internal recruiter, who talked about the role in general terms, sussed out my salary requirements, and put a fair bit of effort into giving me perspective on the role they were hiring for and the growth opportunities.
A couple of weeks later, I was invited over to interview with the team I would work with: four half-hour interviews, with my line manager to be, his boss, and two other people on the team, plus a trip around the offices with an HR manager. Two of the interviews were over speakerphone, with people from the US offices. The tone of the interviews was fairly informal, but I left thinking I had a good sense for the company and that they had some very clear insight into my technical skills and personality.
They took two or three weeks to make a decision and extend me an offer, but they followed up after a week to keep me in the loop about their timeline. When they did make a formal offer, it matched the salary I'd asked for, with benefits on top. It's always nice to deal with an employer who doesn't feel the need to play games with candidates.
