I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Illumina (San Diego, CA) in Aug 2016
Interview
The interview ~30 minute phone interview, followed by a 3 hour panel interview with the manager/team (30 minute increments of 2 interviewers at a time) ~2 weeks later. There were 1 other person interviewing for the same position the day of my interview (in a separate conference room), and ~5 other candidates total. I received a phone call ~1 week after the interview with a job offer.
Riddle: You have two coconuts and are tasked with determining the maximum drop height in number of floors from a tall building (100 floors). You’re have a dollar and 90 cents, but it costs 10 cents per elevator ride up. It is free to walk down the stairs. How do you find the lowest floor at which the coconut breaks?
I applied online. I interviewed at Illumina in Nov 2020
Interview
First interview with HR, 30 min. Just first contact to check if you fit and find out why you want to join Illumina, availabilities, etc.
A second interview with three senior scientists. Discussion about my scientific projects, previous employment, SBS and how familiar I was with Python. It was a bit complicated to ask them specific questions about the role after the interview, as they finished it sharply after 30 min.
