      Network Engineer Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at In-N-Out Burger in Jun 2025

      Interview

I applied for a role on their website. It probably took ~1.5 weeks after I applied that I got a response from HR that they wanted to schedule an initial HR screen. They suggested a date later in the week. I respond the same day suggesting that all except for a single hour I was open that entire day. After a few days went by without any response I followed up and again I didn't see a response the following Monday either. After a week later and several additional attempts to follow up with them they suggested that they had "trouble" getting ahold of me, but I had no responses to my email even in my spam folder so not sure what they were talking about. They suggested two actual time slots this time. I confirmed one that worked best for me for the following day and then the time passed the following day and they didn't call. I sent a followup email after they were over 15 minutes late suggesting a few other alternative times. They suggested another time and they actually called back this time and tried to suggest that we were missing each others attempts even though it seemed pretty clearly a one sided problem on their end. HR went over a lot of high level details as is typical in HR screens. They asked about my personal experience with the In N Out brand. I offered some personal anecdotes and they suggested they would touch base with their IT managers to get a time. It took nearly a week to finally get an interview time after I followed up not hearing anything back after their initial suggested time that they would get some details. The actual interview with the two IT managers wasn't too in depth technically, but they asked a few questions about my technical background and how I kept up with the changes in the industry. They asked me a couple generic questions about troubleshooting network problems and working with other teams. Strangely they used a different SD-WAN vendor in the restaurants than the corporate offices, but were vague upon why that made sense. They didn't ultimately didn't advance me in the process. The hiring managers initially suggest that HR would get back to me in the next 2 days, but heard nothing into the following week so followed up with HR and got a rejection response later that day. Not sure if they genuinely forgot and would have ghosted me if I didn't followup or just a coincidence. The actual technical interview wasn't terribly difficult and suspect it was more of a difference in culture fit or they had a candidate that was a hair better, but my interactions with HR seemed rather unprofessional honestly between failure to respond in a timely fashion, a missed scheduled call, and lack of ownership of those gaffes.
