Interview process was horrendously long. So is this review.
First I met with the branch manager. The interview went very well. Then he rolled his eyes about the long hiring process, said it’s company policy, nothing he can do even tho he anxiously awaits for a qualified coworker.
Then there’s scheduling and time difference, all that fun stuff. Two more interviews.
After all that, two months in, I was given a written test, due in three days. The test has about five problems. Real life student and parents coordination and counseling problems, also includes translation tasks. U r expected to write an essay for each one.
Just to give you a bit background about me. I’m not a stupid person. I graduated top tier Canadian university and I have a Chinese English translation certificate, a TESL certificate, and band 8 IELTs.
I did my best and spent quite some time on the test. Also I had my boyfriend, who also graduated from a top tier Canadian university, to look it over with me.
However, the result I received was “your answer is not sophisticated enough”
Exactly what kind of sophistication are you looking for...? This is an ENTRY LEVEL position!
And guess what? I received my rejection letter on Christmas Day.
As if it wasn’t upsetting enough. So many hours spent on the interviews, written test, coordination with coworkers... I get this bad news at the start of my vacation.
They disrespect other people’s time, and set weird standards for their interviews. I’m not sure how is it like to work at this company. But the interview process is extremely AWFUL.
While they criticize my level of sophistication, I suggest whoever is reading this look at their website, and see their hoity toity “Yale standard” sophistication level. Poorly managed site, with even poorly translated Chinese.
I’m writing this today, because I see they are hiring again, at my city. I hope whoever is applying for the position can see this.
Fun fact, I didn’t even apply for this job. The CEO reached out to me on LinkedIn. Lol
