Met with HR Generalist in first stage interview, he had a standard set of questions that he went straight into after giving me his introduction.
The questions were unrelated to the role, or the seniority of the role that one would expect (head of).
The HR interviewer was early out of studies so I feel the questions was related to a what one would expect to assess personality more than anything else (could be personality leader type, but really hard to tell).
What makes it annoying is, I dont even understand how 1 could do 'bad' in this interview given there are no right or wrong answers - and I honestly felt I should be let through to the next round to meet the CEO. I was eager to meet the CEO to understand their strategy and as a skilled Product resource I have a very innovative idea for them specifically I wanted to test if it aligned to their strategy. Unfortunately I didn't get to meet anyone further.
I feel it was more if the HR person 'liked' me then I would be put through, rather than hire for skill, experience or strategic thinking - I don't see a company like this succeeding - 5 years and they haven't yet launched the app to the market with no key differentiator, I've been in many start-ups, and I know what 'good' looks like. Unfortunately for me they did not ask the 'right' questions to get this information from me that could lead them to a real business that has commercial impact on success.
Feels like they are loosing out on possible good candidates on a HR interview they learnt from college
