      Front-end UI Developer Interview

      Jul 7, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at LAMPS PLUS

      Interview

I was first contacted by phone from a recruiter stating they had an excellent position at LAMPS plus, that if I had ever heard of them (cannot say that I had), and so they had me do an online codepen exercise where it replied heavily on CSS, and laying out a style to look exactly like the image. Piece of cake. Got the call, said they were interested and wanted to interview me in person (they were very close to my house so I was excited), never was it mentioned that I would be tested onsite again, which wasn't a problem, but no preparation went into this interview due to this. The interviewer began by taking me first to their oddly intriguing 60's style cafeteria, however like all other reviews mentioned here, this was the only "nice" thing about this building. Why? So after him talking to be for like 30 minutes (not sure but I think he was stalling for something) it got awkward and quiet while he texted on his phone and then answered calls.... Finally he said he was going to take me around and show me their dev team which I was excited to see, and my excitement quickly dropped as I saw how horrible these poor devs were being treated, crammed in small closets that they made into miniature offices, even the dev manager was SHARING a cubicle. Talk about claustrophobia much? If that wasn't nerve racking seeing teams of 4-5 devs crammed in offices, he slowly began to pull people out to interview me from these individuals. This reminded me of a corporate environment that I dreaded and hated so much. This was not a comfortable environment to work in at all, I began instantly having second thoughts to tell him I wanted to leave, this was not worth it, but I thought I could just give them a try and so I continued. They took me to a board room, and I was expecting a formal interview, instead they jumped right in and told me they were going to test me, turned on a tv, had me sit with a wireless keyboard across the room sideways, so my body is facing straight and my neck is turned to look at this TV, and they had me open another Codepen challenge, this time it dealt with API calls (something that had nothing to do with the position I applied for (Front-end UI Developer), but I had plenty of API experience under my belt so this wouldn't be a problem I presumed. I won't go into the details of the problem, but lets say they give you a broken Object, and they expect you to fix it, then animate the reply from the broken string object. After trying to attempt this very uncomfortably my neck started hurting, and it was hard seeing across the room, I did not complain but this made me run my patience dry, I thought about how uncomfortable they made me feel on purpose to do this exercise sitting so uncomfortably, and while all their devs had uncomfortable desks and seating positions, is there where I want to be? I saw my life flash before my eyes and told them sorry but I will not continue working further as I am feeling very uncomfortable now, I can tell one of the guys was instantly mad, and was like "Okay, thank you bye", and so I left, and never will I ever return to this horrid dev slaving "warehouse". Wish you all luck if you intend on working with them, but really take time to think if you really want to sacrifice your mind, body and ultimately soul for a soul less cold corporate environment.
