I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Lam Research in Aug 2013
Interview
During 25 minute phone interview with contract recruiter, he asked simple straight forward questions while typing my responses to forward to hiring manager. Second interview with hiring manager lasted 20 or so minutes. He posed a fictitious product and asked for my design process for product. My response and interview was good enough to be asked back for in-person interview. I met with 5 members of team in low pressure environment. Was asked to describe my biggest, favorite, successful project from a design perspective. Another member posed a sample product spec and asked what type of design details I would implement. Another member asked some fundamental engineering principle questions such as deflection of beam (steel vs. alum) and mass suspended on spring deflection questions.

Question 1
Was asked to describe my biggest, favorite, successful project from a design perspective. I was not prepared for this question. I had lots of examples of projects and problems-solved related to Lam's products, but the interviewer could not believe that the projects I was talking about were "my biggest" or "most successful".
Phone screening - very simple overview of my experience and description of the role. Was asked basic questions on my resume and if I had experience with certain tools. This included SEM, AFM, etc. They also told me about the location
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Lam Research (Tualatin, OR)
Interview
Incoherent; individual interviewers were great, but the process was entirely opaque. I was escorted to the door silently, buth then I got an offer. It was very strange. The hiring manager seemed eager to get me to accept, but was evasive when I asked questions.
