      Program Manager Interview

      Aug 31, 2015
      Anonymous employee
      Toronto, ON
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at LifeWorks (Toronto, ON) in Sep 2011

      Interview

The first interview was with a recruiter over the phone, followed by a 1 hour interview with the national director. I was then contacted several times by the recruiter who kept me in the loop on the hiring status.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at LifeWorks

      Interview

Applied online for role in city I was moving to. Staff recruiter in Toronto held first interview spread over two calls and coordinated two more interviews. Lots of duplication of questions between interviewers, especially last two, but I sensed we had a good rapport and that the interviews went well, so I didn't mind the duplication. Somewhat unprofessional experience with Toronto recruiter throughout the process, including mis-dialing my number for a phone interview, so I ended up calling her for my own interview after not receiving any call or email for 15 minutes. My final interview, in the city I was moving to, was a Tuesday morning. It was 90 minutes and I genuinely enjoyed speaking with my potential new manager. She told me I would hear back from the recruiter in Toronto by that Friday. As of the following Tuesday, I had not heard back, so I emailed the recruiter. No response whatsoever. The next Tuesday (now two weeks after the last interview), I called the recruiter and had to ask her the outcome. She stated that they had pursued candidates with HR/company contacts in the city I was moving to (if they had asked me, I could have explained I actually do have many contacts here already but this qualifier wasn't on the job description nor was it asked by three different people). She said I would be better suited for consulting, so I asked her for more details on that but she didn't even know if the particular city had consulting, nor did she both looking it up. She told me to apply online. After some thought, I emailed the recruiter asking if an email intended for the hiring manager could be forward to her; it was asking about any needs in the consulting wing in that city and thanking her for the interview. The recruiter replied saying it had been forwarded to which I expressed my thanks, and I never heard back. At minimum, hopefully MS can learn / remember to treat candidates as potential clients, as many candidates come from an HR background (And thus can be potential clients and/or have influence in their networks). I would say this was my worst candidate experience I've ever had; leaving a final candidate hanging for two weeks when they were told three days in unacceptable. My former respect for this company is replaced by a poor experience. By the end of all this, I was actually glad I didn't get the job!

      Question 1

The strangest question/concern was: "This role is quite administrative, I am concerned you may get bored"

      Program Manager Interview

      Sep 4, 2015
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Edmonton, AB
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at LifeWorks (Edmonton, AB) in Aug 2015

      Interview

Applied online. One week later their HR recruiter called and I participated in a 20 minute informal telephone interview. The questions asked were on my knowledge of the company, why I was interested, experience etc. The interview ended with the recruiter telling me that they would be getting back to me for a second telephone interview with the person that I would be directly reporting to (I wondered why they would have a second telephone interview as I've read here on Glassdoor that most potential candidates had face-to-face interviews after the first informal interview). I participated in the second interview and the questions asked were about my knowledge of the company, why I wanted the position, my experience and questions how my experience related to the position. I asked a few questions as well. The interview ended with telling me that the recruiter will be getting back to me in one week and I suspected when that was said that it would be a unsuccessful letter and that's what I received. I suspected this because the position has been posted for over 30 days and for them to wait one week to have an interview was too long if they were looking. I came on Glassdoor again and saw the current reviews and glad I wasn't selected as it overwhelmingly appears that the company's culture isn't the healthiest right now; hence this review. I was qualified for this position and would have been a great asset to the company, but by the reviews talented people seem to be leaving or very unhappy and wanting to leave.
