      Engineering Interview

      Sep 21, 2014
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Mars in Apr 2014

      Interview

A lot of questions followed by a one day selection day at their headquarters. The selection day was 2 hours interviewing and 7 hours wasting time, making you feel like they will have accepted or rejected the students without knowing them. The wasting time involved a very nice tour of their factory and a lot of free chocolate, which was fun.

      Question 1

There were not any really difficult questions, it has been just a grueling interview, with them looking through your CV and trying to find any sort of fault.

      Interview

They say that Mars Inc. culture is unique. That is an understatement. The privately held company is a mix of uniformity, tight focus on cost control, and limited public exposure. The begining of the interview process is typical, HR telephone interview, telephone interview with the hiring manager, IQ tests on-line etc. However, the in-person interview process can only be described as intense. It is a mix of applied case study & management presentation and panel behavioral interview. Preperation. Know their five principles. Understand their business, the key drivers for the position - why are they hiring, and practice presentation skills to management. The case study is timed so you will need to work well under pressure. Presentation skills should be highly focused and organized. Be prepared for questions like "Why should I hire you?" and "Why so many jobs?" They will involve 10+ people in the interview process so the panels could be 4-6 people. Also have an extensive listing of questions for the panel and case study team. Again, be highly prepared.

      Question 1

The business case is a mix of technical, communication, cultural change, and quality, and financial mixed together. Think of a typical MBA mini-case solved in 30 minutes with a 60 minute management presentation. Demonstrate you can think on your feet.
