I applied through an employee referral. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Mathematica (Washington, DC) in Mar 2022
Interview
I applied online and heard from a recruiter quite a while later. Then I had a 30-minute panel interview via video call. There were two people from the team on the call. The next step, if you make it that far, involves a seminar presentation regarding your dissertation research (or possibly other major research paper). Presentation is 40 minutes followed by staff asking questions. Interviews are often typically done through the APPAM and ASSA conferences.
Interviews involved a mix of one-on-one short meetings with researchers and senior researchers and a technical interview, which was a deep dive on a journal article or report. Should be able to handle detailed questions on your work in the technical interview.

Question 1
What are the threats to validity in this research design?
Interesting people asked lots of good questions. Gave presentation and met with diverse staff. Overall positive experience and would recommend applying here. Interview process required one day in person after phone interviews

Statistical training background and familiarity with methods
I applied online. The process took 6 months. I interviewed at Mathematica
Interview
I had a virtual fly-out (likely due to COVID-19 restrictions; pre-pandemic reviews talk about actually being flown out). I met with ~15 people – employees at various levels of seniority in the division for which your profile is a match – over the course of 6ish hours with a couple of breaks in between.
Interviewers were all incredibly smart, kind, and generous with their attention; never failed to budget time for my own questions; and communicated, through just their ways of being, a culture of respect and high standards.

Question 1
Providing interview specifics won't really help here, since at this level, the interviews tend to be (mutual) investigations into how much of a fit your expertise, skills, and disposition are for their current and future projects.
