I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Merck KGaA in May 2020
Interview
I was approached by a recruiter from Merck on LinkedIn. He said I was a great fit for the marketing internship position and that I should apply. Even though I was still finishing my studies and not looking for a role with urgency, I still did.
Right after I finished my application, I got an automatic email from Merck saying that I was not a fit for the position and that they would consider other candidates. After receiving this email, I texted and emailed the recruiter who had approached me on LinkedIn asking for some kind of explanation because it does not make any sense for him to convince me to apply for the position and than refusing my application like this.
After trying to reach the recruiter a couple of times, I saw that he had blocked me from LinkedIn, so I had to give up.
I can say that I never felt this betrayed by a company and this recruiter's attitude was one of the most unprofessional things I have ever seen in my professional life.
I know recruiters have to engage as many people as possible to apply for their positions but this is just lack of character.
I will never apply for any positions in this company, never buy any of its products and already told all my network to make sure they stay away from such unprofessional behavior.
This definitely isn't the experience we want you or any other applicant to have. If you feel comfortable, we can connect so that I can speak to the local team about your experience? And as a minimum ensure that you receive feedback.
