      User Experience Research Manager Interview

      Feb 8, 2021
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Meta (London, England)

      Interview

20-30 mins hort recruiter interview. 1 hr technical screener with a UX manager. They have changed the interviewer on the afternoon of the interview to someone less senior person (the originally set interviewer was a director). I got no detailed feedback in the end apart from not moving forward in the process, but being good enough to be considered for other roles. They are obviously swamped with hiring work, and have no bandwidth to provide a more high touch experience, even though they are nice people.

      User Experience Research Manager Interview

      Jun 10, 2022
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Menlo Park, CA
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Meta (Menlo Park, CA) in Mar 2022

      Interview

Not the first time interviewing for a manager position (recruiters keep coming back every 6-12 months). As usual, first interview is very basic with source recruiter. Tell me about your current role, how many people you manage, etc. Then, came the call with HM. This is where things started to go South. The actual interview was good but the recruiter told me nothing about the role. So the HM had to spend a lot of time explaining the role. In the end, things went well and proceeded to next step. Then came technical interview. Again, this is not the first time interviewing with Meta. I have had 4 technical interviews for various roles (all are same level). If a candidate passed technical interview multiple times, why do you push people through another? Are you raising your level of requirements Meta? Anyway, passed this round. Next, had talk with internal recruiter about comps. Will say was surprised that the standards were below my expectations (basically the same as what I get paid today). But decided to keep going with the interview process. Final round. Presentation, followed by panel interview (3 separate 45 minute interviews). Presentation does take time to prep but fairly standard for tech companies. Panel consisted of 2 UXR directors and 1 XFN director (UX Design). Each focuses on different areas: 1) management style; 2) research impact; 3) XFN collaboration. This last round went well but was told someone couldn’t join the presentation and needed to view the recording. Then recruiter disappeared. Didn’t hear for 2 weeks at which point I got an email saying it’s a no but as I get more experience, let’s connect in 6-12 months. Sure, for someone who has been in research for 20 years, another 6 months will do me good. I don’t know if this has to do with the hiring freeze or I really didn’t pass the mark. Meta doesn’t provide any feedback on why there was no offer.

      Question 1

Standard questions - tell me about a time you had a direct report who wasn’t performing, tell me about a time when you had to work with a difficult XFN partner, etc.
