      Senior QA Engineer Interview

      Nov 5, 2022
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Mimecast

      Interview

I applied online, and after a short time, I heard back from the internal recruiter with more details about the role and a first-stage interview. The job spec I was given to review differed greatly from the online spec. The two interviewers that were listed to interview me were changed last minute to 3 other interviewers without notification, ordinarily, this is fine however Mimecast advises explicitly doing as much research on the interviewers as possible. My initial interview lasted 2 and a half hours, over lunchtime which caused issues with my diabetes. It was unfortunately clear that there was no preparation done for the interview and one of the interviewers clearly didn't want to be there. Over this time I wasn't asked many questions relevant to the 2 job specs I had been given nor my cv. One of the interviewers after the interview then viewed my LinkedIn profile 6 times, from approximately 3 pm to 1 am. I view my notifications however I refrain from actively using LinkedIn, my CV has far more information about myself so that is where I found that strange. I explicitly asked for feedback which was never given and I declined to move forward with the process after the internal recruiter called and changed the role offered again.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Not really any specific questions at this stage, much more generalized interest conversation in the usual expect Senior role topics. Examples of people management, problem resolution, etc. Some technical questions were around Java and Python, but also some tooling usage, such as Cypress.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Mimecast (London, England)

      Interview

I received a call from the internal recruiter and he arranged for first round of interview. This round included mostly questions around my cv and some technical questions around Java. They invited me for the 2nd round which was a codility based live programming session with the QA manager and a senior QA. In 1 hour time, they expect you to finish 5 tasks in Codility. Overall, not a great experience as I find the interviewers to be quite hostile too.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Codility which includes a set of multiple choice questions, pseudo code, 2 Java programs and restassured based coding. Codility in the first place was an awfully slow platform and it hardly shows any errors on its IDE. When you run the code, it shows compilation errors, but, without pinpointing exactly the line where the compilation went wrong. It would have much easier if they gave access to their Intellij rather than Codility. By the time I came to the last task (restassured) I was almost left with few minutes. The task was very lengthy to read.
