Short, Telephone Based. 2 Questions one based on competency, the other on health and safety. Friendly and relaxed process, not particularly stressful. Would have liked more of an opportunity to sell myself

      Commercial Analyst Interview

      Mar 28, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5+ months. I interviewed at National Grid in Nov 2017

      Interview

Did online tests, which were relatively easy compared to ones most banks do. 14 days later I got results and invitation to a phone interview, which lasted 25min and consisted of 2 STAR questions and one which checks company/industry knowledge - nothing out of the ordinary here, the interviewer asks several followup questions. In the end of the interview, when prompted, I asked a couple of questions about the company, which the interviewer could not answer as he was "just part of the hiring team". 43 days later I received the Christmas email telling me they will be busy and to expect an answer shortly. 17 days after this I got notified that they are still conducting phone interviews for the position and to be patient. 37 days on and it I am receiving an oddly composed email about valentine's day, to be patient and how they are "working like cupid to find a match made in heaven". 22 days later I get an email about how they have made initial selection for candidates that would go on assessment day. I was basically put on reserves list but at this point I had already engaged in employment with a competitor, who (in my opinion) has a more professional attitude and more robust hiring process. I am sure it is a great company to work for but their hiring process seemed extremely long-stretched and most candidates who get invited to assessment will likely have already found other positions by the time.
