      Applications Developer Interview

      Dec 27, 2021
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Williamsville, NY
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Northwest Bank (Williamsville, NY) in Dec 2021

      Interview

A few days after applying on their website, I got an email to schedule a phone interview (without an initial phone screening). They seem to want to do the phone interviews as fast as possible so if you say you're available the next day, that's likely when they'll schedule it. The interview was through Microsoft Teams but it was audio only so basically the same as a phone interview. It was with a development manager who definitely knew his stuff. The questions were about what courses I took in college and what I learned in each course. Then, there were technical questions based on what I said about my college courses. Don't be afraid to take your time to think or to write things down and show it on camera if possible. If I didn't know about something, I was told to think about it as "homework." I also didn't have experience with C# but he didn't seem to mind as long as I was willing to learn. I was told to plan for an hour although it only took 40 minutes. At the end of that interview, we scheduled an in-person interview since I was living in the area. The in-person interview was with the same person as in the phone interview. It was mostly a continuation of the discussions we had in the phone interview. We also discussed how I would go about implementing certain systems. There were some questions about my resume as well. The interviewer was also on his laptop for most of the time. This interview was scheduled for an hour and pretty much took the whole hour. The possibility of meeting people in the workplace was mentioned in the phone interview but that didn't happen. Surprisingly, there weren't any behavioral type questions throughout the entire process. The interview was on a Wednesday and I was told that I would hear back around the following Monday. However, I didn't hear back for almost 3 weeks. Up until the rejection email, the status on the website said "Being Reviewed." After the rejection, it says "Closed." When following up with them, I was asked if I would be open to a Sharepoint Developer role and I said yes but I haven't heard back about that either. The odd part is, at the end of the interview, they were talking as if I would be accepted for the role and that I would be more comfortable in the role after a few months once I knew more about C#.
