I applied through college or university. I interviewed at Northwestern Mutual
Interview
It's a long interview/hiring process of around 4-5 meetings. You also have to complete some market surveys to show that you feel comfortable approaching people, getting rejected, and also have the ability to get referrals. If you can't get through this, then this job is not for you. The interviews are fairly easy and you'll get through if you show them you're an entrepreneur, want to make lots of money, and not looking for a regular 9-5. You also must pass the online personality assessments. Note that they are also looking for team players and people who are very involved in organizations (important for networking).
WARNING: You will not be hired if you have any outstanding debts in collections or 60 days past due. Also, no criminal record/misdemeanors is required. Be sure to take take of this before pursuing a career in this field.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Northwestern Mutual (Tucson, AZ) in Feb 2025
Interview
Interviews were very easy. Didn't feel like there was any competition. Met with a recruiter, director of growth, and didn't go through with final interview. Needed to fill out referrals sheet and conduct interviews that concluded with asking if they would be interested in my service.
I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Northwestern Mutual (Rockland, MA) in Mar 2024
Interview
Teams call with the director of recruiting who was herself a skilled salesperson and had her script memorized to a tee. This was clearly a commission sales job where the candidate would have to use their own connections to generate their own leads. But, the product isn't terrible or outside my wheelhouse so I was interested in continuing with the process. I then failed their outdated "personality test", the type which has been debunked as completely ineffective, so the director of recruiting told me my candidacy was "on pause".
