I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Northwestern Mutual (Kansas City, MO) in Apr 2010
Interview
I was interviewed by a young, attractive women; in fact, most of the women in the office were quite attractive (not surprising considering they are in sales). The interviewer was barely out of college and seemed a bit inexperienced. I was asked typical feeler question like "What are your strengths and weaknesses?", "Why do you want to participate in this internship?", and "What experience do you have in sales?". I was then asked to fill out a referral sheet (I wouldn't recommend putting your friends or family down, unless they want to work not Northwestern Mutual). I was then e-mailed a personality test. It was a list of adjectives and the purpose was to pick the adjectives that describe you as an employee; once I submitted that page, the second page was a list of the same words in a different order, and the purpose was to select the adjectives that describe an ideal employee. I think the reason I didn't get another interview was because the words I picked for a didn't match.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
What would make you a good Financial Representative?
Did not respond to my email to reschedule the first round. The recruiter needed to reschedule and did not follow up regarding a day that would work to reschedule. Seems like the interview process is very long and requires a lot of outside assignment completion.
I applied through college or university. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Northwestern Mutual (Chapel Hill, NC) in Oct 2021
Interview
There were multiple rounds to the interview, including going into the office and meeting people. Expectations were not communicated super clearly. The people were great. They were not upfront about the cold calling aspect of the internship.
Pretty basic, basic sales-type questions. This was just an initial screening interview so it was not too in-depth on my experience or my background. Mostly just seeing if your values and work ethic align with NWM values.
