      Quantitative Trading Interview

      Jul 2, 2022
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Sydney
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Optiver (Sydney) in Apr 2022

      Interview

Consisted of an initial basic quantitative assessment, a hackerrank assessment with probability, logic and coding problems, and a behavioural interview as the last stage I reached. This interview seems to expect some well rehearsed answers and certainly aren't looking for conversation to get to know you - this is to learn how much you know about trading, and how compatible your skills are to the work

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Example of a fast-paced environment, why you would make a good trader, your interests etc.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Optiver (Chicago, IL) in Nov 2019

      Interview

First round was quotebook analysis. Basically, each table has a set of buyers and sellers for a certain instrument and to estimate the value of the instrument. I was then asked to do the same for markets undergoing market shock, when there's an sudden change in demand or supply. This part tested my intuition of how markets change given limited information. Right after was a game round. Basically, given two dices and a list of payouts, I am pressured to take action to maximize my payroll in n turns. I was given 4 minutes to read the instructions. I then had a desk shadowing round and lunch. During the desk shadowing, a trader showed me how all the tabs worked on his computer and the whole process where he retrieves information from similar past data and important sources of news to make predictions about the volatility of options on a given future date. Following lunch was my third and most intense technical round. I played a game where I had to guess the total value of eight cards and make bid-ask offers against CPU players.
