      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Policy Reporter (Vancouver, BC) in Jan 2026

      Interview

First phone screen by contract recruiter (super friendly). Then a take home assignment that you get 2-4 hours to spend. Panel interview was good everyone was professional, and asked a lot of questions that surrounds basic distributed systems. Coding portion, this is where it's very specific. I only studied leetcode style questions, and unless your job already requires you to write pure Python and SQL code, you might be in trouble. So brush up on python file systems, arguments, markdow so on, and SQL brush up on your JOINS UNIONS and so on. I didn't want to waste too much of their time, because at that point I was only able to write the solution out in pseudocode. However the head of engineering was very professional and helpful throughout. Asked a few questions on your submitted assignment. Hopefully this helps the next candidate that they're looking for. I suspect fresh grads will pass the technical easier.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Python and SQL questions, beginner style ones. Hard for people who worked in the industry for a while using only Django. But easy for fresh grads.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Policy Reporter (Vancouver, BC)

      Interview

First round : Recruiter Call. Second round: An assignment. Third Row: Team Call. I was contacted a few months back for a recruiter call but then was called off as they have hired someone. (Turn out the recruiter quits). Then I was contacted again when they reposted the job and I applied. Their business objective is not complex (document parsing, web scrapping, llm extraction for intelligence) and they always look for new idea but their hiring pattern looks sketchy (post job, decline candidate with a generic OOP, then cancel, then post again after a few months, hire temporary contractor etc). Probably they just look for new solution idea that candidate brought in the assignment and those temporary contractor's. Please don't waste your time doing their assignment.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Code review procedure. How you update yourself with the latest technology. Tell me about the time you have disagreement with coworker.
