After an initial interview, I was invited for a second round which I expected to be technical but it was only scheduled for 30 minutes so it was a bit shorter for proper discussion.
During this "non-technical" interview, I met someone claiming to be the CTO. When I was talking about my past projects, I mentioned using a specific tool to automate tasks. It was shocking to hear what the "CTO" responded: "it is an old technology and it is surprising to use it." This was quite odd because the technology is widely used.
From that point on it became clear that this person lacked the technical background to properly evaluate a candidate's skills and while I tried to make sense of things, we had a few more moments that indicated communication would be a problem such as asking something then rephrasing the question but actually asking or telling something else, even though I answered that question. This was confusing or misleading.
I decided not to continue with the process since I don't believe this person could fairly evaluate my skills.
It seems like a risky company that won't properly assess candidates, ultimately wasting everyone's time.
This was a disappointing experience.
