I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Rakuten (Tokyo) in Nov 2016
Interview
I went through a recruiter but got the response pretty quick from Rakuten.
First I had to do a programming test on Codility. Highly recommend doing a couple of trial runs on other lessons if you are not familiar to it.
Got a response asking about a preferred interview time and was interviewed the next week.
The interview was with the senior members of the team. Didn't require me to know the company at all before this interview. Basic questions based on your resume and "what if..." questions. Be sure to understand the question properly.
Am awaiting the response of this interview but I'm sure it went well in my mind.
