I had a phone call screening, which directly jumped into simple technical questions. Every question was fair, just very specific on versions of C++ and Linux distributions and I was not prepared. If I had known it was directly technical questions I would have prepared better, unfortunately I was under the assumption that a phone call screening just wants to know more about your experiences and projects with more detail.

Got rejected after screening phone-call interview. I wouldn't say that I was well-prepared. I had some projects on CV so i thought screening call was to know more about your researchs and experience but it is a real interview with questions. I did not prepare for that

All questions were related to the job description. Again, I didn't prepare enough. I wish I had a second chance
I applied online. I interviewed at Renaissance Technologies LLC in Feb 2025
Interview
Submitted resume online. Had 3 virtual interviews and then was asked to provide references. I am phyiscs PhD from ivy league school and was interviewed by Astrophysics, Physics and Statistics PhDs for the virtual rounds. Easy green book style questions.
After clearing these interviews, was asked to provide 3 references and was invited for onsite after that.
During onsite, 1 hr colloqium followed by nine interviews. Met a total of 20-30 researchers who asked either probablity/stat questions (Green book style Easy, medium), Leetcode Hard questions (Three in total) and brainteasers (medium and hard). In total was asked close to 30 questions whole day. Answered most of them except one of brainteasers and one leetcode hard problem. Unfortunately, that was enough for them to reject me.
Overall a decent exposure and a neutral experience. Not really sure what more I could have done considering I am not a CS phd who encounters Leetcode style questions regularly.
Most new hires seem classic FAANG style people so if you have a CS phd, it might be more favourable.
