I applied online and was interviewed a month later. When I arrived I had to check in using one of those self check-in kiosks as they didn’t have a receptionist. I was greeted by the lead of the Marketing team and told to have a seat and wait till I was to be called in. About 15 minutes past my scheduled time, I was called in to meet the President/CEO, Marketing team lead and another member of the team who didn’t say a word the entire time. I was asked if I had physical copies of my resumé and judging by the introductory questions about my background, skills and portfolio, it was very apparent this was the first time he laid eyes on it. They peppered me with different questions about my resumé, my “Product Showcase” experience and packaging. He seemed bothered that I didn’t have any to show in my portfolio which was a bit of a surprise as I thought this interview was mainly to discuss my digital marketing experience, strategies and growth. The President/CEO asked if I had any questions and when I did ask, most of them he’d relay to the marketing team lead to answer even though this position was suppose to report to the President/CEO. I asked about their recent bankruptcy, being bought by a Mexican retailer and how it affected their business operations. The President/CEO went into some detail about it, but at one point he mentioned that they had some creative projects they were working with outside vendors on their products at that time. He goes on to say how they couldn’t afford to pay them for work done so they “stiffed them”, with a smile on his face. I was absolutely floored that he would even blatantly say that in an interview like he was proud of it. At the end of the interview, they asked me to fill out a paper application and stressed the importance of providing 3 references. I didn’t read the reviews about this place prior to interviewing as I like to go in with a clear mind, but after doing so I can see why they went bankrupt in the first place.
