      Material Development Engineer Interview

      Feb 19, 2023
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Södertälje
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Scania (Södertälje) in Oct 2022

      Interview

I got two interviews. The first was online. In around 3 days after the interview, I got an email from them saying that I was one of their best candidates and they'd like to invite me to Södertälje for the second interview and they would pay for all travel expenses. During the whole week, they emailed me several more times to make sure that I'd come, and every time they were emphasizing that they'd pay/refund all travel expenses and they even asked me if I needed help with booking tickets and hotel. I'm an adult so, I could buy the tickets and book a hotel myself. And I went down to Södertälje. The interview started at 10:00 and finished at 14:00. It was ok, but I had this feeling of foul play all the time as if I was being used for staging a false interview. I was already surprised when they said that I was one of their best candidates because they knew that I had no production experience and had only worked as an academic researcher before. But I was still very happy as they said my research background is the main thing that they were interested in. And during the second interview in Södertälje, they repeatedly told me that there would be a mentor (who was among the interviewers) to train and support me for a whole year and that because I have a Ph.D. degree, I'd be employed not as a complete entry-level employee. So, I returned from Södertälje even happier thinking that I got the job. But after a week, they emailed me that they were very sorry but they need someone with production experience. That was ridiculous since if that was the case, they shouldn't have invited me to even the first interview. Anyways, although I was very disappointed, I didn't show it in any way and thanked the contact person for the update and only asked him to refund me the travel expenses as they promised. He said "Of Course! Scania always pays the travel expenses of their interviewees!" He sent me a form to fill in and send him back and I did it. But it's been now 4 months and nothing was paid to me. The contact person ignored my emails twice after that. I recently called Scania and they asked me to send the details to their email, but again my email was ignored. So, to me, Scania proved that in order to hire someone they want, they really organize false interviews due to the obligations imposed by the Swedish government (that when there is an opening in a company/university, they have to advertise it, select a certain number of candidates and organize a number of interviews). Scania is not the only organization doing it, but it is still so unfair for those who really believe that they've been selected for a job and come a long way to the second interviews. And as far as I know, Scania doesn't care about those interviewees whom they use and Scania even doesn't care about its own reputation to keep the promise "we will pay you all your travel expenses if you agree to come to the second interview in Södertälje". So, be careful!
